Till I'm Alone with You

by Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers

/

about

Even (or especially) during a pandemic and political turmoil, we need love songs.

I originally wrote this song for the Acoustic Guitar Project, an international project in which a group of songwriters each write a song in one week on the same guitar. My band recorded this track live in the backyard—one take, no editing—as part of the same session that produced the Grateful Dead tribute EP American Beauties (available only on Patreon).

lyrics

I’m sending a song to you
Light as a star
Follow the river bend
To where you are

Out in the breathing dark
I’m lost in the sound
This is the nearest thing
To having you around

Till I’m alone with you
Till I’m alone
Till I’m alone with you again
With you again

You’ve taken the time to see
And to understand
Under the cracks in me
Is a solid man

I want to lend my hand
And I want to be true
Speak with the clearest words
That will travel through

Chorus

I’m sending this melody
As far as I can
To carry me to the day
When you join in
Join in

Till I’m alone with you again
